SCOVIA’S LEG Many of you heard that when we were in Uganda, we met a nine-year-old girl named Scovia and her mother in a rural village. Scovia broke her leg two years ago, and her tibia has been sticking out of her skin since then. She’s in terrible pain and her life is in danger. Her family has not been able to pay for the transportation to Kampala, let alone the medical treatment. We found a doctor that will see her for nominal fees and will refer her to a missionary surgeon. Our team took up a $70 offering from personal money while we were in Uganda, but it wasn’t enough to take care of all her needs (transportation, housing, meals, and doctor’s visit). I found out about Scovia’s additional needs an hour before I was to minister at a youth rally in Brockport, NY, last Friday night. I approached the leaders and asked if we could take up an offering for Scovia, and they agreed. The youth responded with a whole heart and gave $378 for Scovia!  This will meet a lot of her needs, and hopefully get her on course to surgery and recovery. Keep this dear child in prayer.

UGANDA WATER PROJECT 5K We are excited to announce that next April 24, 2010, we’ll be hosting our first Ugandan Water Project 5K in Rochester, NY! If you’ve ever dreamed of running in a 5K, now’s the time to start training! More info will be available soon on www.isaiahsix.com. There have been many fees in setting up the race and our early funds are depleted. Right now we need $355 to officially sanction the race. This will get us one step closer to making this race a great success and blessing the nation of Uganda. We’re trusting the Lord to speak to his people to help fund this worthy cause. Perhaps you can give an offering today? Make a tax-deductible donation online at www.isaiahsix.com or send an offering to: Isaiah Six Ministries, P.O. Box 10A, Lima, NY 14414

RAINS IN AFRICA In Uganda, when rains fall, it’s a sign of blessing in the spiritual and the natural. More so when it fills the water tanks we’ve installed through UGANDAteamshot.jpgthe Ugandan Water Project! We asked the Lord to confirm His work through us with “signs and wonders” and it seemed that He chose rain on this journey. Every church event we ministered in was accompanied with rain, even in Kayunga, where they had a six-month drought that was broken only two days before we arrived. As the monsoon rains fell on the tin roofs of the churches, sometimes it was difficult even to preach above the thunderous sound, but the Ugandans knew what the rain meant. To them it was a sign from God that we were sent by the Lord, and that our message was to be received with great thankfulness and sobriety. “Let us thank the Lord for the rain!” Pastor Frederick Makka told his people. “It is a sign of blessing for us, confirming that our vistors are from God.”

FORGIVENESS Just as on my last two journeys to Uganda, I continued to minister the message of grace and the Father heart of God to the Ugandans on this trip, but this time I especially sensed that the Lord wanted me to consistently teach on forgiveness. I was so moved the first time I spoke on it in Kawanda, that for the only time I can remember in my life, I wept during the entire delivery of the sermon. The people were deeply moved. One young Ugandan named Jared said to me afterward, “My brother, what you have spoken has set me free from unforgiveness.” When I asked him more about what the Lord had done, he told me, “My father was murdered over a property dispute, and I have hated the man who killed him, but today I am free.” Later on, I blessed Jared with two collared shirts from my suitcase. He was so excited that he embraced me and would not let go.

In Jinja, I also preached on forgiveness in a church called Elim Pentecostal. After the first service, the pastor was soliciting responses from the people, and one UGANDAchildrenandD2.jpgman came forward and testified that he was only visiting the church on that day and was not a Christian. When I taught on forgiveness, a long time bondage broke in his life as he had hated a certain man that wronged him. When grace came to forgive him during my message, his heart could see Christ’s saving grace for his own heart, and without anyone leading him in a sinner’s prayer, this man received Christ right on the spot. The pastor told me, “This is a sign to all of us that your words are sent from God.”

PREACH THE WORD Part of the ordination certificate on my wall charges me: “Preach the Word.” As I have been faithful to do this, I have seen profound results. When we speak of signs and wonders, these follow the preaching of God’s Word. We did not go to Uganda with any self-inflated views, promoting ourselves, or some strange doctrines. We did not obsess over the fantastic, but brought the simple truths of grace and the message of the cross. These truths have been taught from the days of Christ until now by His followers. They are simple and they are life-changing to those who believe. We believe that God confirmed His Word through the simple signs and wonders mentioned, and that God’s people in Uganda will never be the same. Our departure was accompanied with many tears by the Ugandans, and we believe that God will send us to them again.

As taking an international trip like this is a major step of faith as a ministry financially, we are still receiving donations to help carry our ministry through this season as we get into our fall schedule. If you wish to make a tax-deductible gift, you can donate online right here using PayPal or send a check to: P.O. Box 10A, Lima, NY 14485.

Thank you for your prayers and support! May God give you double in return of all you’ve given Him.

Much grace,

The message of grace is being received with great joy here in Uganda at both the pastors’ conference and at the national youth conference. Pastor George Nsamba’s words today to the congregation:

“I have seen many Americans come to Uganda over the last twenty years, but I have never seen anyone have the impact that Derek and Isaiah Six are having. The way they conduct themselves in ministry is bearing great fruit here. Many come and confuse us with their words and bring warring between pastors and churches, but you bring a message that is transforming us and bringing us together. Further, you not only bring the Word but are supplying clean water tanks that are blessing churches and communities all over Uganda. We are so thankful for you.

The messages Derek has shared are different than anything you ever hear in a youth conference in Uganda. Most of the time, you hear messages that tell youth what sinners they are, how useless they are, and only give them rules to obey, but Derek and his team are teaching us that if you stay close to Jesus [and His grace] then you will be transformed and be able to become all that God wants you to become.”

Obviously, I am blessed by these words, not because they commend me or my team, but because they show you the hunger for the message of the grace of God.

FATHERLESS NATION I continue to be amazed by the orphan spirit on this nation. There is a young man here named Daniel (once had a Muslim name) that has an amazing testimony. He received Christ as a teen in a Muslim family and though all was against him, he did not deny Christ. I have allowed him to accompany us to several outings, and he is already calling me “Daddy” as his Muslim father abandoned him. This is just one example of a fatherless nation who have lost their fathers because they have been disowned (because of Islam), abandoned (because of poverty), rejected, slaughtered (by Idi Amin or the LRA), or whose parents have died of AIDS or other diseases. Pray for them, that God would reveal Himself as Father and through His church would rise fathers and mothers in the faith.

KAYUNGA GIRL IS GOING TO HAVE SURGERY! Last blog, I told you about “Scovia” in rural Kayunga…a young girl who has been suffering for two years because she broke her leg and back, and her shin bone has been protruding six inches out of her lower leg. She can’t afford treatment, or even the transportation to get to the hospital 3 hours away in Kampala. We have made some progress, as we met with a doctor in Kampala, and showed him the pictures of the girl’s leg. He’s agreed to help her get on the right track. Our team has taken up an offering from our own pockets, and we’ve raised the money for the girl to travel to Kampala, and get her to this doctor. He will examine her condition and get her connected with the right surgeon. Thanks for all your prayers and emails! Some of you directed us to the very people we are now working with! Keep Scovia in prayer, that the surgery will go well.

Youth conference ends tomorrow then off to Jinja for a trip on the Nile and village ministry in churches and some villages where we’ve put water tanks…then home!!!

Thank you all for your love, prayers, and support!
